Fast Food Nation Entry 1

Food, it's a part of everyone's daily routine. Most of the time we just eat it and don't give it a second thought.  But sometimes not everything goes so well.  You could get sick or even die from eating food that wasn't properly prepared and cared for.  Luckily for us Americans we have someone watching our backs. The F.D.A. is that administration.  This essay will explain how they try to keep our food supply as safe as possible.
The F.D.A. consists of over six hundred investigators working out of offices all over the country.  They work with federal agencies and work their way down to the consumers to make sure they are at all the possible sources of contamination.
With all the millions of the tons of food that is imported to our country every year it is impossible for them to keep everything one hundred percent safe.  They do however try to cover all the places food comes in through.  They have inspectors at our boarders and even in foreign countries to make sure the food being imported is up to our high U.S. standards.  If something makes its way in and it ends up being unsafe, the F.D.A. works quickly to see how the problem started and they will make sure it won't happen again.
The F.D.A. covers a lot of different areas, but it is up to us the consumer to educate ourselves in proper food handling. They can only do so much though! We are the final inspectors!!
